08-08-2020 10:25 PM. "Officially" the only way to know the shutter count is to send the camera to Canon (e.g. for routine cleaning and maintenance) and ask them for this information. "Unoffically" there are apps that can retrieve this information from the camera. I use a utility (available on macOS) named "Shutter Count" (there are similarI'm looking to purchase a used canon 5d mark IV with a new instuled Shutter Count and reflector installed. Open the picture and go for "command i". Then check the relevant tab for the shutter count. some camera OSes store the number in hex, so you just need to convert the hex into "traditional numbers". Exiftool as well is able to read out the value, but you need to be familiarWith the command line.
The utility is for windows users, is free and will work on most recent Canon EOS Digital Cameras (models since 2010). Informations can be read from a USB-con
The 1D Mk IV is the real jewel but still on the high side cost wise. Lots of peopel want them as they are the last of the 1.3 sensor. Any part of a Mk III can be replaced. The shutter is rated at 300,000 clicks but I know of some that have gone over half a million and are still merrily shooting away with no issues. 0SJM.
