Relay on mileage can be seen, how quick issues will come on. 170tdi with dsg6 will be more reliable, just heard complaints about dsg algorithm- 40mph and already on 6th gear!!
Ithink all Tiguans with DSG7 is the DQ500 wet clutch gearbox. All 2.0l TSI and most TDI's have to much torque for the DQ200 dry clutch gearbox anyway. Noemissions problem with the EA288 petrol and diesel engines and in fact the EA288 is one of the lowest NOx 2.0 litre diesel engines. It was the old EA189 that had the problem. This first happened about 3 months ago after a journey of about 45mins. I came off the motorway onto a roundabout and suddenly it felt like I was in neutral.
Themain issue with the mechatronics of the DSG gearbox (in particular the 7 speed gearbox) was that they initially used synthetic oil. In warm climates like India & part of China there were a lot of issues with the 7 speed DSG. After changing to mineral oil these issues have been sorted out. Go for the 1.8 TSi, you will not regret.
